Garden Editing Begins

Garden bed with purple and white coneflowers in bloom surrounded by green foliage and other flowering plants

This time of year I start walking through my garden with a camera and a notebook, making notes about what needs to be done this fall. I call the process garden editing.

Pink and white flowers blooming abundantly in a garden bed surrounded by green foliage and stone elements

This morning, one of those moments happened naturally. As I looked at these two plants, I realized they'd make a wonderful combination. This fall I'll divide a section of the ornamental oregano and plant it beside this beautiful hybrid coneflower. Sometimes the best design ideas come simply by slowing down and really looking at your garden.
